Brilliant Weimann, Masterful Pack – The best and worst rated Bristol City players vs Swansea City

Share

Full Time: Swansea City 0-1 Bristol City

Bristol City ends Swansea City’s unbeaten run in the Championship by beating them 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium, with a goal scored just after 30 seconds. Andreas Weimann netted that early goal, and Bristol could have had more were it not for Swans goalkeeper Erwin Mulder.

Lee Johnson’s men were comfortable for most parts of the game, defending their lead. Weimann took his season tally to five goals in five appearances, with a very well taken goal after Niclas Eliasson delivered a good cross from the left-wing.

Swansea had a chance to level things up late on, when Mike van der Hoorn’s header was cleared off the line.

Bristol City player ratings

Niki Maenpaa (8.5/10)

Little to do in terms of making saves throughout the game, but was commanding and comfortable in building from the back.

Jack Hunt

Jack Hunt (8/10)

A very good performance by Hunt, who was sturdy all afternoon. He made clever forays up the pitch to impact the attacking side of the game.

Tomas Kalas (8/10)

A combative and expert performance from Kalas, who goes from strength to strength for Bristol City.

Adam Webster (8/10)

Won many physical battles with the Swansea strikers and was good on the ball too.

Lloyd Kelly (8/10)

Kelly was physically solid as well, and diligent enough to read the game impeccably.

Marley Watkins (6/10)

Was involved in the goal very early on and looked good in the game. However, he had to be taken off due to an injury after half an hour.

Marlon Pack

Marlon Pack (9/10)

Pack was exceptional with his through balls to the forward players. He was always on the move with and without the ball. A masterful performance.

Josh Brownhill (8/10)

Was the heartbeat of Bristol City’s performance in central areas of the pitch.

Niclas Eliasson (7.5/10)

Delivered a pin-point cross for Weimann to score. It was a lively performance from the winger, whose crosses were mostly on target.

Andreas Weimann (9/10)

A fantastic performance from the 27-year-old, as he scored a very early goal and cleared a Swansea effort off the line late on.

Matty Taylor (7/10)

Worked hard throughout the game to make Swansea defenders uncomfortable. Did not get many chances to score the goal.

Substitutes

Callum O’Dowda (Subbed on after 31 mins) (6.5/10)

Was a good performance overall but he dilly dallied on the ball at times, which is not good when playing in such a highly intense league. He sure will learn from that.

Eros Pisano (Subbed on after 83 mins) (N/A)

Did not get much time to impact the game.
