Brilliant Lingard – The Best And The Worst Rated Manchester United Players From Their 2-1 Win Over Leicester City

Manchester United won their first trophy of the season, as the Red Devils defeated Premier League champions LLeicester City 2-1 at the Wembley Stadium. Goals from Lingard and new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic were enough to see off Ranieri’s men. Both teams were pretty much at full strength with United summer signing Ibrahimovic and Bailly making their competitive debut for their new employers. Leicester City kick off their season on Saturday against Hull City, while United will take on Bournemouth on Sunday as they look to start the Mourinho era. Paul Pogba moved, even more, closer to rejoining United after Juventus confirmed that they had given permission to the Frenchman to undergo a medical in Manchester. Here is how the United players rated in the 2-1 victory.

David De Gea – 7

The Spanish international didn’t have an awful lot to do until with Marouane Fellaini’s madness led to Vardy scoring the all-important equaliser. The 3 time United player of the year will be vital for United next season in between the sticks.

Antonio Valencia – 7

Been pretty impressed with Valencia this summer, loves bombarding forward, which has led to him having 4 assists in the last 8 days. His impressive crossing makes him the first choice right-back in United right now.

Eric Bailly – 9

Man of the Match by a long distance. He was solid at the back and kept Vardy in check for most parts of the match with his pace and strength.

Daley Blind – 8

His position in the starting XI will be under serious threat once Chris Smalling is fit. Struggled sometimes but still did well alongside the big Ivorian.

Luke Shaw – 8

Another full-back who loves running into the final third. It must be a joy for the United fans to see him playing consistently.

Michael Carrick – 6

Did well to keep the game ticking over but it’s hard to see him retaining his place in the starting given the drop in his pace. He will have to compete with Herrera and Pogba for a starting birth.

Marouane Fellaini – 5

Not a good for the Belgia, his horrible back-pass in the second led to Vardy sneaking through and grabbing that equaliser. Another player whose position seems to be under threat.

Jesse Lingard – 8

What a goal by the youngster. He certainly helped his case of being selected in the starting XI with that wonderful individual effort.

Wayne Rooney – 6

Disappointing game for the England captain. It will be hard for Mourinho to make a case for his selection if his performance stays like this.

Anthony Martial – 6

Did try to create something but looks woefully short of match fitness. Mourinho will be hoping the Frenchman is ready and firing before the season starts.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 8

So that’s what all the hype was about. Struggled for most parts of the game, until rose up highest in the box to head home the winner late on.
