Who Is This Romanian Attacker That Chelsea Are Targeting? Everything You Need To Know

Antonio Conte seems set to launch another move for a young player, after capturing Michy Batshuayi from Marseille, the Chelsea manager has been linked with a move for one of Romania’s brightest talents, Nicolae Stanciu.

The 23-year-old current plays for Steaua Bucuresti and plays mostly in the attacking midfielder’s role. It has been an incredible ride for the 23-year-old but he has been touted as one of the best the country has produced since Gheorge Hagi, one of the greatest players to have graced the game.

Stanciu has been known in the Romanian circuit for a long time now but why is his name now being spoken about outside the country as well?

A rising star that just keeps getting better

The rather interesting bit is that back in 2012 also, Stanciu was being linked with a move outside the Romanian league but things did not work out for him. He started his career with Unirea Alba Iulia and joined them at the age of 11.

Stanciu made his senior debut for the side at the age of 15 years and 18 days in 2008 and he wore the captain’s armband in 2011 for the club. His incredible performances led him to move to Vaslui before signing for one of Romania’s biggest clubs, Steaua Bucuresti in 2013.

The midfielder put in some terrific performances for the side and got his international debut with the national team in March 2016. He was expected to be the star for Romania in the Championships in France but things did not work out for the team as they were knocked out rather easily in the group stages.

Stanciu really came to the fore last season as he chipped in with 14 goals, 12 of them coming in the league campaign for his club. He seems to have a better record of scoring for the national side as in just seven games; he has found the net four times already.

Stanciu is extremely versatile and he can play on either wing but as stated earlier, the best way to use him is down the middle, just behind the main striker. While the player would not cost Chelsea a lot as reports claim the bid made to the Romanian club is only £6 million, he can actually turn out to be a decent signing for the amount being spent.

The 23-year-old is known for his quick feet and his ability to link with the main striker is something that Chelsea might use but does that mean Conte would have to deviate from his much-loved 3-5-2 formation?

Time will only be the judge of that but Conte could be looking to bring in some more young blood into the team. The signing of Stanciu could also mean the end of Oscar and it would be a surprise to see Chelsea sign the player who has not started for a big club yet or even played in a big league but naming him as the successor of Gheorge Hagi, the pressure certainly is on Stanciu and who knows, he could turn out to be better than the Romanian legend as well.
