Pep Guardiola’s first ever trip to the White Hart Lane was a reminder of the work he still has on his hands at the Etihad this season. Dele Alli put the game beyond the visitors late into the first half after Kolarov gave the home side an early lead with an own goal. Manchester City tried to find a way back into the tie late in the second half but the 2 goals were enough for Pochettino’s side to take all three points and remain unbeaten in the league this season.

Here is how each player fared for the Spurs on the night:

Hugo Lloris (7):

Made some great saves to keep Aguero and Iheanacho out of the goal and was also confident with his handling. Had one nervy moment but a decent performance on the whole.

Kyle Walker (7):

Was full of energy on the night as he kept patrolling his flank without any fault. Provided loads of width in attack and also helped his side keep a clean sheet on the night.

Toby Alderweireld (7):

Another commanding display from the centre-back who is fast becoming one of the best in the Premier League. Dealt with City’s attack with relative ease.

Jan Vertonghen (7):

Gave Aguero no space and time on the ball and rendered the Manchester City attack ineffective with a terrific display.

Danny Rose (8):

Was one of the best players on the pitch for the home side as he kept asking questions in the final third while also managing the balance of his defensive role. His cross put Tottenham ahead in the first half.

Victor Wanyama (8):

A strong and powerful display from the former Southampton man who has adjusted to the life well at the Lane. Was a constant presence in front of the back four as he helped his side put in a solid display.

Dele Alli (9):

Started the game in a deeper role but managed to find pockets of space in dangerous areas getting himself a goal before half time. Also created a number of half-chances for his side and was the man of the match for this game.

Moussa Sissoko (7):

Stuck to his task well on the flank as he kept the Manchester City defense honest for most of the game. Was also disciplined defensively and played a crucial role for his side.

Christian Eriksen (7):

Looked confident on the ball and managed to create space for himself a couple of times. Came close with a free kick and was a decent outlet in attack all night.

Eric Lamela (6):

His penalty could have been the cherry on the cake for Spurs but none the less, he kept his side in the hunt and troubled the City defense on more than one occasion.

Heung-Min Son (8):

Another inspiring display from the inform forward. Son picked up an assist on the night for Alli’s goal and linked up well with his teammates to create havoc in the Manchester City box all night.

Subs:

Eric Dier (6):

Came in with less than 20 minutes to go but helped his side keep the City attacks at bay late in the game.

Kevin N’Koudou (6):

Got 5 minutes plus extra time under his belt as he continues to get himself acquainted with the English conditions.

Vincent Janssen (6):

A substitution to push the game along, Janssen replaced Son in the final minute of normal time and had just a couple of touches on the night.
