Why Brighton should sign Youssef En-Nesyri from Leganes?

According to a report in Brighton Independent, Brighton have made a £18.2m bid to sign Leganes striker Youssef En-Nesyri in the upcoming days before the transfer deadline.

Fellow Premier League side West Ham United are also in the race to sign the Morocco international (h/t Brighton Independent), who netted twice for his country during the recently-concluded Africa Cup of Nations.

En-Nesyri was in the Moroccan World Cup squad last year and scored against Spain after coming on as a late substitute. He joined Leganes from Malaga 12 months back and has impressed in the La Liga. (h/t Brighton Independent)

Brighton have been quite active during this transfer window so far and should continue to make additions to the squad. Here’s why signing the 22-year-old forward would make their squad even more competitive:

En-Nesyri can be that X-factor forward in the team

Predominantly a centre-forward, Youssef En-Nesyri is capable of playing as a support striker or as a winger on either side. The Moroccan international has improved his game to a large extent in the last 12 months to attract interests.

During the 18/19 season, he scored 11 goals and assisted a further two in 34 games in all competitions for Leganes. He chiefly played as a striker for the Spanish side but was used on the left-wing effectively as well.

In terms of attributes, En-Nesyri possesses good pace to trouble any defence and has fantastic dribbling skills. He is lethal in front of the goal while being physically strong to hold onto the ball amidst pressure and link up the play with other forwards.

Having relied on veteran Glenn Murray to score the vital goals till last season, Brighton could do with a player of En-Nesyri’s quality in their squad.

The Morocco international would not only add goal-scoring options but his propensities are such that he can become an X-factor player in the team.

Conclusion

Thus, Graham Potter’s men have done the right thing by making a bid to sign Youssef En-Nesyri. He could make them a proper competitor in the Premier League and not just relegation scrappers.
