Breaking! Liverpool Plan Double Raid for £40m Premier League Duo

Share

Liverpool just cannot get enough of Southampton players it seems, the Reds are preparing a double scoop for two Saints’ defenders in the winter transfer window. Having already purchased five players in two and a half seasons, Liverpool are looking to sign Virgil Van Dijk and Sam McQueen for a fee of  £40 million.

Also on Klopp’s radar is promising academy talent McQueen, who could be the answer to Liverpool’s struggling left-back position, which has been filled by James Milner for the majority of the 2016-17 campaign. The Liverpool vice-captain has done a good job as a whole but Klopp is still keen to bring in some young talent and sees McQueen as a great prospect. The 21-year-old made his Premier League debut for Southampton during their 3-1 victory against Burnley last month and has gone on to make a further five appearances for the first team.

Having being held to a draw on Saturday, mainly due to a man of the match performance by centre-back Van Dijk, the Merseyside team would have felt they dropped two points rather than gained one at St Mary’s.  After signing Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne and Sadio Mane from Southampton since 2014, Jurgen Klopp’s men were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw.

Mcqueen’s contract expires at the end of this season but with Van Dijk signing a six-year contract just recently, he would cost Liverpool a hefty sum considering his calmness on the ball along with exceptional ball playing abilities. He could be the best centre-back available right now and a few pundits believe that the Reds could genuinely win the title if they assured their defense with these two in the squad.

Although Southampton are well aware of Van Dijk’s abilities and Claude Puel also realises what an important player he is for their team. But considering the fact that Liverpool are pushing for the title and a few more honours, could lure the player to change his mind in the coming transfer window.
