Bolton Wanderers – Expected Transfer Ins And Outs For The Summer Window + Season Preview

Share

Bolton Wanderers 2018/19 Season Preview

Bolton Wanderers managed to maintain their Championship status by the skin of their teeth last season. Avoiding relegation was an incredible feat for the Trotters, who returned to the Championship in the 2017/18 campaign. But Bolton must look to build on their incredible survival in order to fare better next term.

Phil Parkinson has done everything required of him since taking charge of the club. He took Bolton back to the Championship at the first time of asking and beat all odds to keep them in the division without much investment. It’s all moving in the right direction for Bolton for the first time in a while.

Next Season’s Target

It’s going to be incredibly hard for Bolton to stave off relegation next season, and they are likely to be in and around the foot of the table. But if they can manage to find the form which saw them remain unbeaten in November last year, then they should be able to steer clear of the relegation scramble. But they need to strengthen their squad in the summer if they want to fare better next season.

Bolton Boss Phil Parkinson

Best Sell

This is a strange section for Bolton as there is already extensive remodelling going on behind the scenes. There are no less than 20 players out of contract this summer, and Parkinson wants to speak with each of them to discuss their futures. But Filipe Morais has already left the club after making 37 appearances in all competitions last season. The fans trust Parkinson but hopefully, the clear-out is happening because of managerial decisions and not due to financial constraints.

Best Buy

Bolton need goals if they are to improve on last season’s position, and there are a couple of loan options from the Premier League which could be very attractive to them. And one player whom they know quite well is Adam Armstrong, the young Newcastle striker, who had a good campaign with Blackburn in League One last term. He didn’t fare well during his previous loan spell at Bolton but he looks to have matured at Blackburn and a re-coupling could be mutually beneficial.

Predicted Finish:

18th in the Championship would be an improvement on last season, and it’s also a realistic finishing position for the Trotters.
