Tottenham Hotspur have been on an excellent run of form since the month of December which has seen them rise rapidly on the Premier League table. And one person who has been extremely pivotal for Mauricio Pochettino throughout this period is Dele Alli.

The Englishman burst on the scenes last season, emerging as one of the most promising midfielders in the Premier League, after having finished the season with 10 goals and 9 assists. And after a rather slow start this term, Alli has hit top form and has already bettered his goals tally from last year, scoring 11 goals along with 2 assists.

Eight of his eleven strikes have come since the second week of December, post Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United. During this period, Tottenham have won all but one of their seven games, drawing their weekend encounter against Manchester City, in which Alli scored the crucial first goal for his team after they looked down and out at 2-0.

It is no surprise that based on these scintillating displays, Alli has emerged as a potential target for 11-time Champions League winners Real Madrid . The Los Galacticos are willing to offer up to £50 million for the former MK Dons midfielder in the summer. But Tottenham should resist the advances at all costs and should not let Alli go and here are three reasons why:

Best English Midfielder in the Premier League

Ever since the Premier League has set the rules for clubs to have a minimum of eight home-grown players in their squads, the premium for English players has become sky-high.

And in Alli, Tottenham have one of the finest English players in the league. Young, energetic and extremely confident in his abilities, Alli is a huge asset for Spurs. Recently, he became the fastest midfielder to reach 20 Premier League goals, going past legends like Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard, David Beckham and Steven Gerrard.

Now, imagine United without Scholes and Beckham, Liverpool without Gerrard or Chelsea without Lampard, during their prime and where that would have left those clubs. Selling Alli would have a similar detrimental effect on Tottenham and hence, they should hold on to him at all costs.
