Nottingham Forest v West Brom Report: West Brom Match Report
West Brom have begun their Championship campaign with a streaky 2-1 win away at Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. Matty Cash scored for the home side while Kyle Edwards and Matt Phillips were on target for the visitors.
Eight minutes into the game, the first of few goalkeeping errors came into the limelight. Cash tried his luck from 20 yards with a drilled shot at Sam Johnstone’s near post. However, the Baggies keeper couldn’t keep that one out and Forest took an early lead.
Seven minutes later, Edwards did well to go past the aforementioned scorer and had a shot on target. That shot got slipped under the Forest keeper Aro Muric, who is incidentally on loan from Manchester City for this season.
Around the 26th minute mark, Phillips whipped in a mishit cross from the touchline, that somehow went over the top of Muric and into the back of the net. Even though at first view it looked the keeper could have done very little about it, this really has to be counted as another error from him.
After a error-prone yet entertaining first-half, the second half was a bit subdued, with Forest looking for an equaliser but not with extreme urgency. They had a couple of chances which weren’t taken at the time.
On the other hand, West Brom looked fairly comfortable to keep hold of their lead and start their league campaign with a win. They also a couple of chances to finish the game off early, but it was not to be.
With this come-from-behind victory, the Baggies continue a good trend of winning from losing positions, which began last season. Only promoted Aston Villa won more points from those situations during 2018/19 campaign.
