Clean Sheets 

The first thing we look for in a good goalkeeper is the number of clean sheets they have and this season it is being led by Manchester City’s Joe Hart. The England international has seven clean sheets to his name from the twelve games he has played this season. Close on his heels are Boaz Myhill and Petr Cech with six shutouts each while Maarten Stekelenburg, Heurelho Gomes and David de Gea come in with five shutouts each.

Saves

To keep a bit of parity, we only compared players with more than 10 appearances in the league and looked at their average saves made per game. Tim Howard is the man who leads this stat with 3.58 saves made per game and is followed by Sunderland’s Costel Pantilimon who comes home with 3.42 saves per game. The ever impressive Jack Butland then follows with 3.33 saves made per game while former Arsenal goalkeeper Fabianski averages 2.75 saves per game. New Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech comes in fifth with 2.67 saves made per game.

Goals conceded

A large measure of your goalkeeper ability is keeping those clean sheets, but you shouldn’t allow goals in also. Every goal conceded is important, Liverpool will know that fact as their leaky defence did cost them a title two seasons ago and this stat is led by Joe Hart who has conceded just five goals all season. Hugo Lloris and Petr Cech come in second having conceded nine goals all season while Stekelenburg and Butland come in with eleven and twelve goals this season.

It isn’t the toughest choice to make as to who has been the best goalkeeper this season. It is a straight dogfight between Joe Hart and Petr Cech and this round has been won by Joe Hart, but a special mention should go out to Jack Butland, who seems to be getting better as the season goes by. Joe Hart might have a competitor for the England job that is great news for Stoke City and England fans.
