Backup Plan: 3 Realistic Replacements For Eden Hazard At Chelsea

Share

The player of the year last season was booed at every single moment when he got the ball in Chelsea’s victory over Sunderland in the Premier League. Eden Hazard wasn’t the only one singled by the home crowd as they voiced their support for Jose Mourinho who was sacked by the management after a poor start to the season.

Eden Hazard

Hazard though has played a hand in the poor season for Chelsea; the Belgian has not been at his best, something which the Chelsea fans have seen for a long time and with just one goal and three assists to his name in all competitions this season, his batteries could be burnt out this season.

Although it might seem a drastic step but Chelsea could be looking for a replacement for Hazard or even someone who could play on the other wing and provide some support in the attack. Chelsea’s frontline hasn’t been doing the business this season and one of these three players could well get the job done for the London team.

  1. Antoine Griezmann

The 24-year-old attacker can play in multiple positions and that could be his most attractive feature. Griezmann joined Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad and hasn’t looked back since making his debut for the other Madrid team.

There have been links with a move for the Frenchman to the Premier League and he could well be the one who takes over duties from Hazard. Griezmann has a history of scoring important goals and is blessed with a lot of pace and great delivery. He already has 13 goals this season for Atletico and has three assists to his name as well. He might cost the club a huge amount, but he would be worth taking the gamble.

2. Marco Reus

Marco Reus hasn’t been able to kick-start his career after the injury that robbed him of his place from the German World Cup winning team. The 26-year-old seemed to be getting back to his best this season, but injuries have been a part this season as well.

Reus still has 10 goals and a couple of assists to his name this season and maybe moving to another club could be the way for the German to get his groove back. Pace and an eye for the net are two of his greatest traits, but Borussia Dortmund would not be willing to let go of one of their star players unless Chelsea decide to fork out big for the pacey attacker.

3. Yannick Bolasie

This might be a surprise inclusion into the list, but there hasn’t been another player who has impressed the Premier League, at least on the wings than Yannick Bolasie. The Eagles player has been impressive for Alan Pardew and surely could play in one of the top teams in the league.

The 26-year-old is quick on the ball and has a ton of tricks up his sleeve, although he can be a little inconsistent that wouldn’t be a problem based on how easily he can change games. Bolasie has scored five goals this season and could well be a cheaper alternative than the other two players mentioned in the list.
