Awful Liverpool: Player Ratings + Highlights Against Hull City

Share
A performance of the season from Hull City

A shock scoreline at the KC stadium meant Hull City produced the performance of the season to beat a patchy Liverpool side by a 3-1 scoreline. It was certainly the performance of the season by Steve Bruce’s side who had won only once in the last six games, while for Liverpool it was a major setback given their aspirations for  a Champions League berth. The Reds from Merseyside will be more than gutted albeit their disgruntled performance. While for Hull whose vociferous fans shouted “Steve Bruce, Steve Bruce” after the final whistle, the win will come as a major reprieve and a source of inspiration  for the later half of the campaign.

Here are the player ratings for the Liverpool players from the match.

Simon Mingolet: Hardly was at fault for all the three goals. Dealt well clearing dangers when provided with poor backpasses from his own team mates.

Rating: 2.5/5

Glen Johnson: Would be disappointed by a shoddy performance when more was expected from him. He was very sloppy in possession and gave away the ball more often than not.

Rating: 2/5

John Flanagan: Had a decent game playing out of position. However, did very little going forward and rarely overlapped the wingers up front.

Rating: 2.5/5

Martin Skrtel: Was unlucky to score the own goal as he tried to clear Huddlestone’s weak effort on goal. Though he did chase well in and out of channels, he was very poor in the air, a player of his stature shouldn’t have been beaten in the air so easily.

Rating: 2/5

Kolo Toure: Didn’t have a great game, but calling him poor would be unwise on a day Liverpool defended poorly. Cleared dangers on various occasions but on the overall was unsured.

Rating: 2/5

Lucas Leiva: Made some good interceptions however was poor in his distribution at times. Lost the ball quite too often, which makes a case that Liverpool need a Central Defensive midfielder this January.

Rating: 2/5

Steven Gerrard: Though his deliveries from open play was way below his standard, Gerrard equalised with a brilliant free kick.

Rating: 3/5

Jordan Henderson: Was quite energetic, but had no great end product. However, won the free kick for Liverpool’s goal but needs more imagination on the pitch.

Rating: 2.5/5

Victor Moses: Tried to burst his way using his great physique but had no success whatsoever.

Rating: 2/5

Raheem Sterling: Played for the first time since October, however his game was majority on the far side and did absolutely nothing.

Rating: 2.5/5

Luis Suarez: Wasn’t quite his usual self today, perhaps Sturridge’s absence hampered his game overall.

Rating: 1.5/5
