Arsenal’s goalkeeping department would be set for the next decade if they sign this promising Juve starlet as Cech’s replacement

Why Arsenal should sign Emil Audero from Juventus

According to a report in the Sun, Premier League giants Arsenal are keen on signing Juventus goalkeeper Emil Audero. With Petr Cech set to retire at the end of this season, the Gunners would require a new shot-stopper to challenge first-choice Bernd Leno in the team.

Meanwhile, Audero is currently on loan at Sampdoria, where he has played every single minute in the Serie A so far. The Indonesian-born stopper has kept seven clean sheets this season, which is a pretty decent return in a mid-table team.

While the Blucerchiati have an option to buy the keeper come the end of this season, the report says that a few Premier League clubs are interested in him, especially Arsenal. Here’s why the Gunners should sign the 22-year-old in the summer transfer window:

Audero would buy into the Emery system

Unai Emery likes his goalkeepers to be secure with the ball at their feet and start the build-up from the back.

In short, the former Sevilla boss sets up his team in a way that everything starts from the back, and builds up to the final third. For that reason, we saw Petr Cech not get a start after Bernd Leno settled down at the club.

It is because the former is a fantastic stopper but not very convincing when it comes to passing from the back. This is where the latter had the advantage. The German is a good shot-stopper as well, but his ability to be calm with the ball is something that makes him the first-choice at Arsenal.

Emil Audero is a young player who possesses the modern-day traits of a goalkeeper. The Juventus man is pretty good in coming out of the line to clear the dangers when playing with a high-line defence. His height allows him to be commanding in the box from crosses.

The 22-year-old has been progressively better in ball distribution from the back. The save average of 2.8 per game shows that he is not bad when it comes to stopping the ball from going into the back of the net.

All in all, the Indonesian-born stopper looks like a player who would buy into what Emery wants from his goalkeepers. (Sofascore.com)

Hence, Arsenal shouldn’t hesitate to buy Audero in the summer window before any other potential suitor takes him away. From the players’ viewpoint, moving to a Premier League club and learning the trade would be a perfect next step in his career.
