Arsenal Transfers: Winger Set To Stay At The Emirates While Giroud Wants More Signings

Ryo Miyaichi

Despite rumours around Ryo Miyaichi’s probable move to Feyenoord, Arsene Wenger has expressed his desire to retain the Japanese winger at the Emirates this summer.

The 20-year old Arsenal winger has been linked with Dutch club Feyenoord after their manager Ronald Koeman has shown affinity for Miyaichi. After Arsenal’s 2-1 triumph over Urawa Red Diamonds where Miyaichi played, Wenger claims that the Japanese youngster will prefer to stay with the Gunners.

After joining Arsenal in January 2011, Miyaichi was soon loaned to Feyenoord where he had a decent season. So it is no wonder that the Eredivisie side would be keen to get him. The situation will only change if Wenger manages to assign more players in the squad. Only then the French manager would reconsider the case. So far, it seems Miyaichi has shown enough skills to impress the French manager.

“I believe he is in a position where he needs to play to have a good chance of competing at the top level,” Wenger told Arsenal’s website. At the moment he will stay in the squad. Should we buy more players I will have to reassess the situation. At the moment he will stay with us.”

“He has done well, you could see that he is finding his sharpness back,” added Wenger. He is fighting for his position like many players. I like his game.”

In the meantime, Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud has welcomed any prominent striker in the Emirates. His reaction has come at such a time when Luis Suarez is heavily linked up with the North London club.

It is quite a well-known fact that if Suarez finally comes to Arsenal, this French International’s position will be under threat. Being Podolski in the side, if Suarez joins the German, then Giroud might have to sacrifice. But he doesn’t seem bothered about himself. In addition to that, he asked his team officials to sign a few more substantial players in the team to end the drought period of silverware.

The Frenchman said: “I think we need maybe two or three more players. Yes, that’s what we need. To show ambition.

“The club has to show the fans that we want it. Me and my team mates, we need it as well. It’s all about the team. It will be a really positive thing if we have a new striker.

“I am not worried but I will wait until September so we know the team, the players. I never used to read the newspapers and I don’t want to change my way of life but I have heard a lot of things and I know we need a striker.

“The most important thing is the team. We are waiting for one but we don’t know. I think it will be good for the team and for me as well to have another striker, to have more competition between us.

“But I think I could play with him or without him. So I will be able to be in the first XI this season. I really want to be in the first XI this season but we will see.”

Last season, Giroud scored 17 times in his 47 appearances for the Gunners.
