Arsenal signing this £80m-rated hitman would make all the difference for Emery and co next season – Here is why

Arsenal Opinion – Gunners should beat their rivals for Wilfried Zaha

According to a report in Daily Mail, north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham, along with Dortmund and Inter Milan, are interested in signing Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

There are suggestions that the Eagles would be open to selling the player, but only for a fee around £80m.

This story escalated after the 26-year-old made it clear that he intends to leave Selhurst Park before the start of next season, predominantly because he wants to play Champions League or higher-end football. (h/t Daily Mail)

As per the report, several clubs have watched the winger very closely over the past few years. (h/t Daily Mail)

However, Arsenal have really scouted him well this season and want to make a move in the summer. The only worry is that there are three other big clubs mentioned above, who are also looking to do the same.

Here’s why the Gunners should beat their rivals and sign Zaha:

Arsenal could get real quality in wide areas with Zaha in their ranks

It is well-documented and understood that Arsenal need more quality when it comes to wide areas in the attacking department.

They have lethal finishers and good creative midfielders but the lack of a player who can hold his width, take a full-back on and deliver crosses into the box has to be addressed in the transfer window.

Unai Emery has Alex Iwobi as the only out-and-out winger in the team. The other two who play as wingers – Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – are central attacking players. The former is at his best playing as a number 10, while the latter is a striker by trade.

Hence, the manager doesn’t have the personnel to play a system where he can stretch an opposition defence and create space in the box. For that reason, signing Zaha, who is at his best when hugging the touchline and taking full-backs on, would be a great idea.

The 26-year-old has been a talisman for Crystal Palace and probably one of the best players who is playing in a team outside of the coveted top-six.

Conclusion

Even though the fee asked is a bit high, the impact Zaha can harness is close to many other good players in this Arsenal team. Therefore, they shouldn’t hesitate in making a move ahead of their rivals and bring the winger to the Emirates in the summer.
