Are Liverpool planning to win the Premier League? Their new deal for the record-breaking Salah suggests so

Why Liverpool have done a brilliant thing by tying Salah on a long-term deal

According to reports, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has signed a new five-year contract with the club.

Salah, 26, joined the Reds for £34m from Roma last summer and has scored 44 goals in 52 appearances for the club. The Egyptian’s new deal, which runs until 2023, does not contain a release clause.

Salah struck a record-equalling 32 goals in the Premier League, earning him the Golden Boot last season. His fine form in front of the goal also saw him claim the PFA and FWA Player of the Year awards. His heroics in helping Egypt qualify for the World Cup also earned him the African Footballer of the Year trophy and BBC’s African Player of the Year trophy.

Hence, the bumper new deal is a just reward for a phenomenal first season from a man who took the Premier League by storm. In Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, the Reds boast of one of the best attacks in Europe. The trio established a telepathic understanding between them that helped Liverpool rip apart teams left, right and centre.

By tying Salah down to a new contract, Liverpool have offered him a happy working environment and opportunity to excel at the highest level. The 26-year-old was one of the chief reasons why Liverpool reached the finals of the Champions League against Real Madrid.

Salah’s impact at Anfield has been crystal clear but Jurgen Klopp has yet again failed to win silverware. But credit to Klopp’s team for constantly playing a brand of football that was eye-catching and exciting last season. And in the German’s full-throttle style of football, Salah was the magician as his lightning pace was on full display during devastating counter-attack goals against a lot of teams.

At Anfield, Salah has become a firm fan-favourite in just a season. He has become a global superstar for the Reds and has the platform to achieve everything with the club, provided they continue competing at the highest level.

The fact that Salah has signed a new five-year deal with no release clause is a great thing for the club. Now if the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona want Salah, they’ll have to fork out an astronomical sum of money.

Due to a shoulder injury, Salah was not at his best and he could only play two games as Egypt were knocked out of the World Cup’s group stages. Now that Salah is back home, he must rest and regain his strength ahead of a second season with Liverpool. A fully-fit Salah could end Liverpool’s league title drought next term.
