A lifeline? Klopp must give this unlucky Liverpool star a chance and think twice before spending big

Why Klopp must give Karius another go before splashing the cash on expensive keepers

Loris Karius‘ horror show in the Champions League final this past season led many to believe that his time at Liverpool was up. It could still turn out to be the case, as the Reds are believed to be in the market for a goalkeeper.

Players like Yan Sommer and Jack Butland have been linked with a possible move to Anfield. However, Klopp should still place his faith in Karius to give the shot-stopper another chance – a chance at redemption.

In this article, we will argue why Jurgen Klopp should give Karius the benefit of doubt and trust him for one more season.

The Concussion

A few days after Liverpool lost the final to Real Madrid, it was revealed that Karius was diagnosed with a concussion following a duel in the penalty box.

Although the medical team and the player should have had better communication to spot the problem early, the two howlers by the custodian could have been due to a concussion.

Karius would surely be expecting some sympathy from his coach because of his injury and he deserves that. Klopp should motivate Karius by daring him to put the mistakes behind and emerge as a top-class shot-stopper.

The impressive record

Before the Champions League mishap, Karius was impressive for the Reds. When experienced shot-stoppers like Cech and Lloris were giving away many goals because of their mistakes, Karius had an almost flawless campaign.

The goalkeeper also kept the most number of clean sheets in the Champions League. These numbers show that Karius is a quality goalkeeper who had a horrible night, unfortunately, on the biggest stage of club football.

He is young and can improve

Karius is only 25 years old, which is a young age for a goalkeeper who can learn a lot before reaching his peak. Most goalkeepers hit their peak at around 30 and the German goalkeeper has a long way to go.

Karius should take it upon himself to show some progress in the preseason to win Klopp’s trust and get on the road to recovery.

Klopp should also acknowledge the fact that Karius can only improve under proper guidance and in an atmosphere where the teammates and the coaches have confidence in him.
