A Dream Liverpool XI Featuring The Rumoured Transfer Targets

Liverpool have faltered after beginning this season on an exceptional note. From being contenders for the title until the turn of the year, the Reds are now fighting to hold on to their Champions League spot with both the Manchester clubs pressing hard.

With not a lot of games left to be played in the season, Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to seal the qualification to the Europe’s premiere footballing event. However, plans for next season will already be taking shape, as the German goes about strengthening his squad in the summer transfer window.

A lot of names from across Europe have been linked with a move to the Anfield by the tabloids. While it is a given that most of them will remain as rumours, here is a playing XI comprising of players who have been linked with a move to Liverpool:

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Jurgen Klopp

Joe Hart (GK)

The Manchester City man has been linked with a move to the Merseysiders since he has been forced out by Pep Guardiola. With Liverpool’s goalkeeping woes not completely solved, the rumour does makes sense, but it is unlikely that Klopp will pursue the interest.

Serge Aurier (RB)

Bit of a surprise considering that the Reds have an excellent right-back in Nathaniel Clyne. But with European football next season, strengthening the squad will be a smart move and PSG’s Serge Aurier, who has been recently linked with the Reds, will be a good addition in that direction.

Michael Keane (CB)

The 24-year old is sure to leave Burnley at the end of the season and Liverpool are vying for his signature along with bitter rivals Manchester United. Considering the fact that Keane will be a regular at Anfield, the move could prove to be appealing to the player.

Virgil van Dijk (CB)

The Reds have been linked with a move for the Southampton defender since January and it seems inevitable that the Dutchman will complete a summer move to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Ryan Sessegnon (LB)

The 16-year old sensation has become a hot prospect in the market and according to reports, Liverpool are leading the race for the Fulham left-back.

Leon Goretzka (CM)

The 22-year old German has been on Klopp’s radar for a while now and has been doing consistently well for Schalke. A versatile operator in the midfield, Goretzka will not cost much either, considering he just has a year left on his contract.

Naby Keita (CM)

With 8 goals and 8 assists this season, Keita has been a major reason for RB Leipzig’s excellent season in the German Bundesliga and this has put him on the radar of Liverpool. The Reds have made him their primary transfer target alongside Van Dijk and are expected to seal the move.

Marco Asensio (RW)

The 21-year old Real Madrid starlet has shone brightly in his breakthrough season in the Spanish capital. With Klopp looking to add depth to his options in wide areas, Asensio fits the bill perfectly, but it has been reported that the Reds have had a huge bid rejected for the youngster.

James Rodriguez (CAM)

James Rodriguez

Another Real Madrid player who has been heavily linked with Liverpool, but could be heading to United according to latest reports, Rodriguez would be a great addition to the attack with his creativity and knack for goals.

Douglas Costa (LW)

The Brazilian has sent the rumour mill into a tizzy after he liked a tweet linking him with a move to Anfield. Having grown frustrated with the lack of opportunities at Bayern Munich this season, Costa is looking to leave and Liverpool would pull off a coup if they sign him.

 Alexandre Lacazette (ST)

The star marksman from France has been in Liverpool’s eyes for a long time now and with Champions League prospects looking strong, they might be able to convince the Lyon striker to move to the Merseyside club.
