Liverpool vs. Manchester City: Combined XI
Liverpool play Manchester City in the League Cup final on Sunday and although it isn’t the largest trophy to show off in the cabinet, it can be a redemptive measure for both teams as they have failed to achieve their targets this season.
While Liverpool are nowhere near the top four, Manchester City might not win the league, though they have a decent chance of doing well in the UEFA Champions League. Getting this trophy could push each team a little closer to where they might want to end the season.
We compare both sides and come up with a combined XI of the best players in each position. At least, the ones that are fit or are in form.
Joe Hart
The English number one is easily the better goalkeeper when compared to Mignolet and should be in the XI without any doubt.
Nathaniel Clyne
The English right-back has had a decent season for Liverpool and just about slots in as the right-back in the team.
Vincent Kompany
Manchester City look a shadow of the team when they do not have Kompany in their side and he easily is one of the best defenders in the world, so it is nothing for him to get into this team.
Nicolas Otamendi
The Argentine might not have had the best first season in the Premier League but he still has had a better season than most of the Liverpool central defenders.
Pablo Zabaleta
Zabaleta might be a right-back but he can play as a left-back for this XI since he has been brilliant all season for City.
James Milner
The Liverpool midfielder hasn’t done anything crazy this season but that is a good thing, he has been Mr. Consistent for Liverpool and thus makes it into this XI.
Yaya Toure
The Ivorian has been hot and cold this season but he can turn matches around when he wants too.
Roberto Firmino
The Brazilian had a tough first half of the season for Liverpool but he has gotten better as the season has progressed and deservedly is part of this team.
David Silva
The Spaniard hasn’t been all that great for City this season due to injuries but he is fit and raring to go in this team and in the League Cup final as well.
Philippe Coutinho
Liverpool’s talisman would have a huge role to play in the final and the Reds will bank on him on doing some damage to City.
Sergio Aguero
The City striker has been brilliant all season, as long as he remains fit, the blues will have a chance of winning the League Cup and more.
