The Worst And The Best Rated Chelsea Players vs Southampton: Ivanovic Was Impressive After A Long Time

Chelsea Player Ratings vs Southampton

Guus Hiddink’s unbeaten run in the Premier League continues as Chelsea came from behind to secure a 1-2 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s. The Blues are yet to lose a league match since the Dutchman took from Jose Mourinho, although the run looked to be heading towards an end when Shane Long scored to put Ronald Koeman’s men ahead in the first half. However, Cesc Fabregas had different ideas as he put the Blues level with an inswinging cross, which was also the first goal Fraser Foster has conceded in 708 Premier League mins. The turnaround was complete when stand-in Blues skipper Branislav Ivanovic rose highest and powered a Willian cross into the back of the net.

Thibaut Courtois

Not his best game in a blue shirt was slow to react against Shane Long. However handled everything else with calmness. 6

Cesar Azpilicueta

Was solid in his new position at right back, never shy from venturing forward to join the attack. 7

Branislav Ivanovic

Impressive game after a long game, looks to be getting back in form after a disastrous start to the campaign. Made few very important tackles and scored the decisive header late on. 9

Gary Cahill

His partnership with Ivanovic is really working well for Chelsea right now. Made an important interception to deny Austin. 8

Baba Rahman

Not fully fit and was taken off half time. Was guilty of allowing Long to open the scoring in the first half. 5

Cesc Fabregas

Scored to bring Chelsea on level terms although he might have meant that as a cross. Linked up well with his teammates up front. His first away goal of the campaign. 8

John Obi Mikel

So important in Hiddink’s game plan right now, another good game for him today. Protected the back four excellently and cleared any danger that came his way. 8

Pedro

The manager took a risk on him and it proved costly in the end. No impact at all on the game after he came off in just the 6th minute with a hamstring injury. NA

Willian

A quiet first half for the Brazilian, shifted on the wing after Pedro’s injury. Much better in the second and really stretched the Southampton defense. Player of the season for Chelsea simple. 8

Eden Hazard

After a good game against Manchester City last week, started slowly here but grew into the match as the time went on. Was involved in Chelsea’s first goal. 7

Diego Costa

The striker tried all his dark art tactics to unsettle the Southampton but was left frustrated for much of the afternoon. Missed an excellent opportunity in the second half. 6
