It is not secret that many of the former Manchester United players have not been happy with the style of gameplay implemented by the Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal. Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand have often expressed their concern over the current possession-based style that Manchester United is adapting to. Now former Manchester United player Owen Hargreaves was caught expressing his displeasure at LVG over his team selection.
Caught unaware that he was live on the TV, Hargreaves was clearly not comfortable with Carrick on the bench while Schwinsteiger and Fellaini formed the midfield partnership in the starting line-up. While Fellaini offers something different in terms of midfield presence the strategy did not pan out exactly as LVG would have wished for.
In a rather inexperienced team with youngsters, Owen Hargreaves wanted to have an experienced midfielder, a Champions League winner beside Schweinsteiger. In spite of the new arrivals of Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin many believe that Carrick is the club’s most consistent midfielder. Hargreaves is probably one of them.
