3 Reasons Why Lionel Messi To Chelsea Could Never Happen, Never.

Lionel Messi To Chelsea?

The online footballing world went berserk last night when Lionel Messi started following Chelsea on instagram, rumours started flying in that the Argentine might end his relationship with Barcelona and join the Blues in what would be a record deal. Messi is valued at 220 million Euros and if Chelsea or any club do pay that much money for Messi, it would probably stay as the highest transfer fees paid for a player unless the pound devalues like crazy in the near future.

Messi

Messi, who played in the World Cup final but lost, has been trying to get his tag back as the best player in the World after Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or last season and it seems with the scoring record Ronaldo is on right now, he will win another title. Messi moving to Chelsea might be a chance for him to enjoy a new culture but here are 3 reasons why this deal could never happen, never.

The transfer fee is astronomical and would destroy FFP

Chelsea were very happy to announce profits last season, probably the first time something like that had happened since Roman bought the club. It has been a target for the board of Chelsea to make it a self-sufficient club and not be bankrolled by its rich owner as was the case at the start.

Paying 220 million (at least) to sign Messi is crazy to say the least that is probably the budget for the entire Chelsea team including salary for the players. Messi might be one of the best players in the World but paying that amount would also surely bring in FFP sanctions as Chelsea would need some help from their rich owner and I doubt Roman would be up for that.

Jose Mourinho’s best laid plans

Right now the most important player for Chelsea is Cesc Fabregas. The team ticks along as long as Fabregas and Matic play together that is something we have seen for sure. Jose Mourinho does not like to change the way his team plays and this Chelsea team has more of an emphasis on the midfield and movement of the strikers than just paying attention to the gameplay of a single player.

Messi doesn’t fit into Jose’s plan at the moment and his signing would only cause a few headaches, expensive ones to Mourinho, if Roman even wants Messi, Mourinho would veto that decision. He sold a couple of their best players Mata and Luiz when he did not need them, so he does have power in the running of the club.

Barcelona are Messi

Let’s get one thing straight, Barcelona are built around Messi, even with the signings of Suarez and Neymar, the main player for the club is Messi. He has broken records left right and centre for the club and him leaving Barcelona is something which is unfathomable.

Messi might be going through a bit of a lean patch but still is one of the best players in the world. What he probably needs is a little more time off from the team and maybe he needs a break to recharge his batteries. He has had a long couple of seasons which didn’t really include much of a break from international duties; a relaxed Messi would be the best thing for Barcelona and for himself. He probably will play in Blue next season but for Barcelona’s blue, not Chelsea’s.
