Who Is This £8m Rated Full Back/Centre Back That Arsenal & Chelsea Are Targeting?

Tyrone Mings
Tyrone Mings

Ipswich Town have a star in the making at their club, Tyrone Mings, who plays mostly as a left back for the Championship club has been on the radar for a few Premier League clubs, a couple even made an attempt to sign the player in the last transfer window and he could be moving to the Premier League in January.

Career history

The 21 year old initially joined Southampton in 2001 but was let go by the club when their youth budget went over the limit and was released in 2009, he was then signed up by Ipswich Town, He made his debut for the club on the last day of the 2012-2013 season and has now become the first choice left back for Ipswich after the sale of Aaron Cresswell to West Ham United this season.

Playing style

The 6 foot 3 inch tall defender can play both as a left back and can move into the centre back position as well, something that he is used to at Ipswich Town. Blessed with good control of the ball and pace, Mings loves going up and down the left flank and has been one of the best players at the club this season.

Mings is also very strong physically, something which isn’t seen every day for a left back, he also wins most of his tackles and aerial duels but is susceptible to making passes, he has won close to 54% of all his tackles and has won 10 out of 13 take ons this season.

His passing as stated is the problem in his game; he only has a 60% passing accuracy which is quite poor by Premier league standards. He has also won 60% of all his headers this season, which is a good stat for any young player. (stats taken from Squawka.com)

Possible future destination

The clubs touted to be vying for his signature are Palace, Arsenal and Chelsea with Arsenal leading the race for his signature. He would cost around £8 million to pry away from Ipswich and would be an ideal candidate to play in this Arsenal team.

He is young and someone who is built well, can run fast and take on defenders, plus he can move into the centre back position if needed, something that Calum Chambers can do for Arsenal as well. Arsene Wenger likes having players who can play in multiple positions and the 21 year old is pretty adept at that. He could be on his way to join the Gunners in the January transfer window.
