87% Pass Accuracy – 3 Reasons Why Liverpool Should Sign This Versatile Dutch Defender

Share

Liverpool’s transfer market is already in full swing as they have already managed to sign players such as Rickie Lambert and Emre Can to strengthen their side. They need to add first team players and also players who would increase the squad depth. Next season Liverpool play Champions League and that would increase the amount of matches that they have played per season so far. That calls for players who are young, in a learning curve and would not mind sitting on the bench to wait for their chances.

Stefan De Vrij

The defence has always been a problem for Liverpool and this season they could not put their hands on the Premier League trophy, partly because of their defence. In this scenario, manager Brendan Rodgers is in a dire need to bolster the defence of the side and move away from the old guards of Agger and Skrtel. And in that process the Liverpool management have identified Stefan de Vrij as the man to bring in. We provide three reasons why we think that Stefan de Vrij would be an ideal signing for Liverpool.

1. The age factor

Liverpool have decided to stay away from players who have already reached their peak or have already established themselves in some other club. Rather they are always on the lookout for players who have just impressed the football world with their skills and have a lot of years ahead of them. With this principle in mind, Liverpool have invested in the likes of Coutinho and Ilori over the past couple of years and Stefan de Vrij falls exactly in that genre. The 22 year old has already done enough to grab the attention of the football world and he has a long career in front of him. Liverpool can provide him with the opportunities and get the best out of him.

2. Change of old guard

Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel have done exceptionally well for the team over the past couple of years. But this season has made it evident that they are not the players who can guide Liverpool to Premier League or Champions League glory and a change of guard is necessary. Liverpool already have players like Sakho and Ilori to play in the centre back and the efforts of the team should be to gradually bring in fresh faces in the defence. Stefan de Vrij is a player who has the desire to excel and can learn the Liverpool way very soon, thus making him an ideal player for the Kops. He had scored 4 goals last season along with a pass accuracy of 87%.

3. Defensive Depth

Last season Jon Flanagan was made to play in the left side of the defence with Glen Johnson in the right. Considering that Johnson would be sold this term and Flanagan moved to the right, his original position, Stefan de Vrij can be the back up to the young English defender on the right. The dynamic duo can handle the right side a lot better than it has been done this term and with de Vrij in the side, one constant problem of the Liverpool squad would be reduces.
