86% Pass Completion, 15 Key Passes: Why This Unlikely Player Has Become A Vital Cog In Chelsea’s Season?

Share

If there is one good thing that Chelsea fans can talk about this season it has to be the form of their £32 million signing a few seasons ago, Willian. While the rest of the Chelsea team have decided to go missing for almost all of the season, the Brazilian has tried his best to carry Chelsea over the line as he keeps on scoring important goals for the London club.

Even in the Champions League, it was the free-kick from Willian which gave Chelsea the 2-1 win over Dynamo Kiev, a win that could actually take them to the next stage of the competition. This was Willian’s fifth goal this season and surprisingly all of them have come from free-kicks. His delivery might be one of the best in the league as well, Chelsea fans should be happy with the kind of work he has been doing for the club.

Willian

Almost at another team in England

We all know how Chelsea signed Willian at the last moment, snatching him from the doors at White Hart Lane. Yes, Willian seemed all set to join Tottenham but somehow ended up at Chelsea, many joked that he might have ended up at the wrong address, but he did catch the eye of Chelsea and he has shown that he is a different player but someone who is important to Jose Mourinho.

While Jose had picked on Eden Hazard earlier for not doing his job on the defensive end, but Willian can never be accused of shirking his responsibilities in defending for the team. Willian is played out wide for Chelsea, he might be the best attacker in the Premier League, but the amount of work he does off the ball is second to none in the league.

Willian’s stats his season for Chelsea in the Premier League:

Goals: 2

Assists: 1

Chances created: 16

Successful passes: 279

Pass completion: 86%

Key Passes: 15

Willian

The Brazilian is always the first one to track back, during the game against Liverpool we often saw him run and start the attacks for the team. The value the winger brings to the club might not be found always in terms of goals and assists but ask Jose Mourinho about which player could start every game for them, one of the first names that would be called out by the manager would be of Willian’s.

The funny part is that players such as Willian will rarely get the plaudits that the likes of Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas or even Diego Costa, maybe you wouldn’t want to be compared with Diego Costa at the moment, but Willian will never be seen as the star man. He does the dirty work, he runs around midfield causing problems to others, he is the attacker you need, a silent blue-collar worker; he is the player that Chelsea needs at the moment and he is delivering all the same. It is time we applaud his season, hopefully he can be the catalyst that saves the Blues’ blues.
