4 Goals And An Assist Already – This Forgotten Liverpool Attacker Is Making The Right Noises In The Bundesliga

Why Divock Origi Has A Future At Liverpool Despite Being Sent Out On Loan

The Belgian international striker was sent to Wolfsburg on loan in the summer, as Klopp wanted him to play regular football which he couldn’t guarantee at Anfield. With the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Dominic Solanke available already, a loan move to Germany seemed ideal for the 22-year-old.

Origi has been featuring regularly for the Bundesliga side with Mario Gomez sidelined due to an injury. The Belgian striker already has 4 goals and 1 assist in 9 Bundesliga appearances this season and seems to be getting a hang of the German League.

His recent performances have clearly impressed the chiefs at Wolfsburg and he could move on a permanent deal come the end of the season. Origi has been featuring heavily under Wolfsburg manager Martin Schmidt and had he remained at Liverpool, he would have barely seen any game time.

Speaking to the Bild (h/t ESPN) earlier this month, the 22-year-old striker stated that he would be open to making a permanent move to Wolfsburg and that he has been having a great time at the club.

“I feel really well here. It’s a nice club and I am having a good time,” he said. I can grow here. And you can never rule anything out in football.”

Liverpool haven’t exactly relied heavily on their strikers this season, with most of the goals coming from the wings, with Mohamed Salah leading the charge. However, the Merseyside club might not be willing to give up on Divock Origi despite having excess of choices.

The only reason Jurgen Klopp sent out the 22-year-old on loan was so that he could develop further. The German manager has always hailed the Belgian as a world-class talent and surely has him in his plans for the future.

Origi featured in 34 games in the Premier League last season scoring 7 and setting up 4 in the process. However, of the 34 appearances, Origi started in just 6 of those games, with others being just brief cameos.

The young striker has a decent goal return, with 21 goals in 86 appearances since joining Liverpool, with most of those goals having been really important for the Reds both domestically and in Europe.

When he returns from Wolfsburg in the summer, Origi will have played in three of Europe’s biggest Leagues – Ligue 1, English Premier League and the Bundesliga. His stint in Germany would add to his experience and would also make him a more well-crafted player when he returns to Anfiel, thus giving no reason for Jurgen Klopp to offload him permanently. In fact, Origi could feature a lot more next season if he continues his progress with Wolfsburg.
