Grzegorz Krychowiak Scout Report
Poland have been on a bit of a rise since hosting Euro 2012, blessed with the likes of Szczesny, Lewandowski and Piszczek, the current squad of Poland might be one of the strongest the country might have had.
The future looks quite bright for the country as well with the likes of Milik coming through the ranks but another player has had just a huge rise in popularity and is already on the radar for quite a few Premier League clubs.
Grzegorz Krychowiak, the 24 year old currently plays for Sevilla in La Liga and has already made 20 appearances for the Polish national team. He primarily plays as a defensive midfielder and that has caught the eye of clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool with Arsenal even stepping up their pursuit of signing the midfielder and having some steel in that department, something they have missed this season.
Career History
Initially Krychowiak was not interested in football; it was only at the behest of his brother that he decided to join a sports academy at the age of 12. He was part of a Bordeaux setup from 2008 and continued his development at the French side before moving to Reims in 2009.
Reims were in the third division of French football and he helped them attain promotion before he moved to Nantes, again on loan in the 2011-2012 season before re-joining Reims in the 2012-13 season when they started playing in Ligue 1. He scored 8 goals in 70 league appearances for the French club before he signed a deal to play for Sevilla in La Liga.
Playing style
Not known for his attacking ability, Krychowiak is a proper defensive midfielder and has good aerial ability. Being 1.86 m in height does help in winning the aerial duels, he is a decent passer as well; his work on the defensive end can be seen with him having 6 defensive actions throughout the game. So far this season, Krychowiak has had 35 interceptions, 23 clearances and 3 blocks in 11 games, which is pretty impressive for anyone. (All stats from Squawka.com)
He is not a playmaker from deep positions though; Krychowiak cannot make that telling pass from midfield as he has had just 3 key passes in 11 games this season. He still is young and needs to learn how to concentrate throughout the game, although he has not made any defensive errors this season, the errors have been highlighted earlier in the past while at Reims.
Possible future destination
Liverpool were known to be scouting the Polish international but Arsenal might have stolen the march with reports coming that they already have decided on signing the player to fill the void that has plagued their midfield for the past few seasons.
