3 World Cup Stars Arsenal Should Look To Sign In Summer Including This French Forward

Share

The World Cup is giving us lots of excitement and lots of goals and has already thrown huge surprises and upsets with World Cup holders Spain becoming the first team to exit the tournament followed by Costa Rica’s unlikely success that has led to England’s elimination and the elimination of either Italy or Uruguay. With such a high octane tournament going at full flow, we are bound to have noticed some outstanding performances, which the World Cup always throws at us. Here are three players who impressed in WC so far,  that Arsenal can look to sign in the coming transfer window:

1. Guillermo Ochoa

Ochoa put up one of the best world cup performances by a goalkeeper in the World Cup this time, when Mexico faced Brazil. One of his saves has striking semblance to Gordon Banks legendary save denying Pele’s devastating header, when he saved Neymar’s powerful header in a similar fashion.

Coincidently, Arsenal have lost their Cup goalkeeper Fabianski to Swansea after the keeper wanted to be a regular player at club level. This has led to an open spot for a good goalkeeper on whom Arsenal can rely on in cup competitions as well as some league matches when their first choice keeper Sczcezny is injured. Ochoa would fit in perfectly as he is a free agent looking for a new contract in a new club, and Arsenal would offer strong wages and a good stable stay in London.

2. Serge Aurier

The rumours have been monumental linking the young Ivory Coast right-back to Arsenal and the World Cup is justifying the defender’s hype as he is putting in strong performances that have left the Ivorians in a good position in their Group.

Aurier is Ivory Coast’s chief creator from the right side as he has been in rampant form from the wings. He was instrumental in Ivory Coast’s late ‘surge’ as they killed Japan with headers resulting from his crosses. He would provide a lot of service to his team-mates be it at Arsenal or at any other club. Latest rumours have been saying that he has already signed for the Gunners, but nevertheless, he is one player whom Arsenal must fight to get.

3. Karim Benzema

Benzema has been in red hot form in this tournament and has emerged as France’s best player. He has shown that he can step up without the usual world class service he gets at Real Madrid as he has been truly world class with his performances in Brazil.

Benzema has taken the burden of attacking impetus on his own shoulders after critics literally wrote him and his country off after Frank Ribery’s injury. Any doubt about his ability to step up with an average midfield is put to rest as the Arsenal target has really started to boss the game with 3 goals and 2 assists already in two France matches. He could have been the top scorer till now had he not missed a penalty, but he has been critical to France’s performance. Also, his partnership with Giroud has been good against Switzerland and would further be testes as Benzema plays deeper than usual.

If the Real Madrid star does manage to play in the deeper forward position and still deliver similar performances, then it is hard to imagine Arsenal getting him at a low price. Wenger is bound to have a lot of competition, but it would be totally worth it as they would really become title contenders if they get such a star forward.
