The transfer window is open and one of the teams that is trying to get their season back on track is Manchester United. The club haven’t had the best of seasons this term and have been labelled as ‘boring’ by many of their own fans.
Manchester United might be tempted to dip into their pockets and splash the cash on a few players but they should heed some of their previous signings, especially under Louis van Gaal and simply not go for the biggest names or the most expensive players out there.
The January window might just be a taste of things to come for the summer and here are three players that Manchester United must avoid in the future.
Reports of a £165 million package from the Premier League side must have gotten the tongues wagging for the United faithful but even this deal seems a little too expensive for Manchester United.
The club might have the finances to pull it off but simply getting Neymar will not solve the attacking problems that United have. Neymar isn’t the requirement for the team at the moment, well unless he can play down the wings and there is no guarantee that the Brazilian would click instantly at Old Trafford either.
The 23-year-old also plays for one of the best teams in the world and it is due to the exploits of Messi, Suarez and the rest that he reaches another level, something that he probably would not achieve any time soon with this Manchester United squad.
2. Felipe Anderson
This seems to be one of the done deals of the transfer window and with Manchester United needing some sort of Samba magic; they have turned to the Serie A to sign the 22-year-old Lazio attacking midfielder.
Felipe Anderson took Serie A by storm last season but this season it has been a bit hit and miss for the attacker. This was always going to be Anderson’s problem over the long run, his consistency and that has come to the fore once again.
Manchester United need to sign someone who knows the Premier League very well, like Sadio Mane and spending over £30 million on an untested Brazilian in the league would be a risk yet again by Louis van Gaal which could see them sink a little lower in the overall standings.
3. Cristiano Ronaldo
With the imminent sacking of Rafael Benitez on the horizon, it might not be the worst idea to move for one of the Real Madrid stars but getting Ronaldo back to Old Trafford wouldn’t be the answer to the solution.
Ronaldo hasn’t been playing all that great this season, despite scoring a ton of goals against the smaller sides. The Portuguese also seems to be a bigger ego than Louis van Gaal and that would not work for the Dutch manager.
Ronaldo is the star at Real Madrid and moving to Manchester United wouldn’t actually get him any closer to winning a few more trophies, especially with the quality of players around him. United would have to pay big money to sign the 30-year-old, something that might not work out for the record Premier League champions.
