3 Things That Can Stop Liverpool From Winning The Title This Season

Share

With 30 goals in the first 11 games in the Premier League, Liverpool are currently at the top of the table with 26 points to their name going into the international break. They have played each of the top-6 teams currently in the league table except Manchester City and are also absent from Europe making them genuine title contenders this season. Jurgen Klopp has played down any title talks at this stage but it is clear that the Reds are building the platform for yet another title charge after the disappointment of the 2013-14 season. There are many reasons as to why Liverpool might end their title drought this season yet we ring you 3 things that might stop them from doing so yet again:

Pep Guardiola:

Though Liverpool are hot favourites to lift the title, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are not too far behind. Though they have had some hiccups, City have a strong side that can beat any of the Premier League sides on their day and will surely give Liverpool a run for their money in the title race. The Spaniard knows the winning formula and though it is his debut in the country, he is expected to be a part of the title race late into the season. He is a manager who knows how to get results and win leagues and will surely be the biggest hindrance for Liverpool on their way to the 19th league title for the club.

Injuries:

The Premier League schedule is one of the most intense around Europe and it has always seen the teams around the country struggle with the rush of fixtures in crunch times. The teams will play the embarrassing number of games over the next 3 months, in a time where seasons can be made and lost, and Liverpool will hope that they can keep all their stars fit for every game this season. Though they are not in Europe and have some decent depth, injuries to star players can easily dismantle the chemistry that is building in the squad and can come back to bite them come the end of the season. Klopp will know that he will need to strengthen a couple of positions in the squad but will not be ready to spend in the January transfer window until he finds the perfect player. This might be something that might stop the Reds from lifting the title this season.

Their defense:

Liverpool have conceded 14 goals this season already, which is more than any other team in the top-10 spots in the league table after 11 games. They have been atrocious at times at the back like in the game at the Selhurst Park recently and that is not a performance that can win titles for the side. Though they managed to out-score Palace on the night, Liverpool have a serious problem at the back and it will not take too many quality players to open them up. The League is 38 games long and there will be teams who will figure out how to get the better of the Reds in their current form. So Klopp’s team will have to stay strong and eradicate any shortcomings at the back of they are to go all the way and lift the title this season.
