Antonio Conte’s Chelsea are on a decent run at the moment and are placed 3rd in the points table. The manager will be relatively happy with the efforts of his players in recent games but there are a few positions that need to be improved in January if Chelsea are to keep pace with the best.
One of the biggest problems for the side has been their goal scoring. While Spaniard Alvaro Morata has been effective in most games, he does not have an able backup who can share the burden of goal scoring. Young Michy Batshuayi is yet to win the manager’s faith and Conte might look for another option in the January transfer window. Here are three such strikers Chelsea should look to sign:
The English international has not been able to cement a place in the first-team at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp and is struggling for game time. He still has a superb scoring record for the Reds, and incidentally, has only missed two games with an injury this season. He is surely going to look for first team action elsewhere, with the World Cup coming up and Chelsea should give him another try. His first stint at the Bridge was not too fruitful but the 28-year old will be a superb backup for Morata in the first-team.
One of the most exciting strikers in Europe at the moment, Dembele is in sizzling form at the moment in Glasgow. He has 4 goals and 3 assists in 10 league games this season and has been in great goalscoring form, for more than a year now. He is a genuine goalscorer, who Chelsea wanted even in the summer and with Celtic now in Europa League but comfortably placed to win the domestic league, Chelsea might be able to lure him to London this time around.
Another French international who Chelsea can sign is Atletico Madrid star Gameiro. At 30, he may not be a long-term option but his experience is what Chelsea are missing at the moment. He has 3 goals and an assist in just 6 starts this season and has been linked with a move to England already. However, Chelsea should definitely join the race to sign him as his attributes are a perfect fit for Conte. He may not be the best option available but mid-way through the season, Chelsea might not be able to find a better fit.
