3 Rock Solid Defenders Who Will Make This Liverpool Side Formidable In Europe

As I write this, Liverpool are yet to take on Sunderland in the premier league, trying to keep pace with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table. The Reds have looked imperious this season, specially in 2014 in which they are still unbeaten. Brendan Rodgers’ side have played some dazzling football over the course of the campaign scoring the highest goals amongst all the teams in the league but their defensive problems continue as the Reds keep conceding fragile goals at the back. Though Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger and Mamadou Sakho should be entrusted upon to do their job at the back, major tabloids now claim that Rodgers has now made a centre back and a left back his priority signings come this summer. So today we here at Soccersouls provide our readers three defenders who can jump on the bandwagon and sign on the dotted lines at the famed Anfield Road.

1. Marcos Rojo:

With Jose Enrique out for the remaining of the season, John Flannagan has done a tremendous job playing out of position in the left back slot. Glen Johnson too has taken the responsibility of playing on the left, but Rodgers will look for a permanent solution. Sporting Lisbon’s Argentine defender Marcos Rojo has been identified as the top target as he is Alejandro Sabella’s first-choice left-back ahead of the World Cup. He play at centre back too thanks to his versatility and would probably come cheap and would be a great addition to the Liverpool squad. The 23-year-old defender is an integral part of his club and is impressive going forward to overlapping the wingers up front. Metro however reports, that any move for Rojo will be complicated by the fact that 75 per cent of his contract in the Portuguese capital is owned by a third-party – Investment company Doyen Sports. Premier League rules mean that Liverpool would need to buy the player outright from both Sporting and Doyen.
