No Jose! – Why Manchester United Should Avoid Signing Lucas Lima No Matter What

Manchester United are easily one of the in-form sides, not just in England, but also in Europe at the moment. They have been high on confidence since the start of the season and a lot of it has to do with Jose Mourinho’s summer recruits and their early form this season. The likes of Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic have hit the ground running but the manager is looking to add few more players to his squad in January, to try and ease the pressure later in the season.

A number of star players are constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford and one player that they are now extensively looking to sign is Brazilian star Lucas Lima. The Santos midfielder is one of the most exciting players in the Brazilian domestic league but here are three reasons why the Red Devils should avoid signing him:

His age

A product of the Inter de Limeira, Lima established himself as a top-class player only at the age of 23, and at a Brazilian side in Santos. He is now 27, and has cemented his place in the first team at the club, helping them week in and week out. However, at his age, he is far from the kind of player who will improve under Mourinho. United currently have a crop of players who can rule the Premier League for years to come and Lima, at his age, just does not fit the bill. He may be approaching his best years as a player but is not what the Red Devils are looking for.

Other options in the market

To add to it, there is a plethora of talent ready to prove itself at the highest stage in Europe and there is no reason why Manchester United should avoid them to sign Lima. The Brazilian star has a flair that is undeniable but he is hardly the best option out there, even in the January transfer market. He may be cheap, but that is never something that has attracted Manchester United, who should avoid falling into this trap.

Lack of European experience

But most importantly, Lima has never played at the highest stage in Europe, In fact, he has never played leagues games outside Brazil and is not someone who is dependable in the biggest competitions on the planet. He has attributes that could turn him into a star but at his age, he will take time to adjust to the new challenges, something Manchester United do not need at the moment. He is hardly an option in the Premier League or the UEFA Champions League and looks like an investment United can definitely avoid.
