Jurgen Klopp:

There are a few reasons for Liverpool’s exciting play this season but it all comes down to the manager. The German maestro, who helped Borussia Dortmund to new heights in his time in the Bundesliga has now completed a year at Anfield and has transformed the whole squad into top class performers. His style of play relies on every player having enough self-confidence with and without the ball at their feet and this has helped close to every Liverpool player get the best out of their selves.

The manager has brought the confidence right back in and has turned most of them into the match winners and that is easily visible in their play and this is making them an exciting side to watch at both ends of the field.

Roberto Firmino:

It is hard to point out one player for the success of the whole team but the former Bundesliga star has been exceptional for the Reds since he started playing under Jurgen Klopp. It is clear that he is the trigger for Klopp’s ‘gegenpress’ at Liverpool and his work rate on and off the ball is making Liverpool a better side game after game. He has been fruitful playing as a lone striker but he has also helped the side in the midfield and also at times in the defense making the Reds a stronger side.

His skill and quality with the ball at his feet is electric and he is a player not many defenders in the league want to face at the moment. The likes of Coutinho and Mane have also been impressive but it is the all-round contribution of Roberto Firmino that has made the side as fluent as it is in attack.

Yes, Klopp’s false-9 system, which is fast becoming a trend with Arsenal and even Manchester City at times, has been more than successful for Liverpool this season. Firmino has been used up top at the start of the game but without a recognized striker, Liverpool have a number of players acting as one during the game. During their trip to Selhurst Park, Emre Can was often found in the penalty area with Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane while Firmino and Coutinho, the other two attackers were happy sitting outside the box and dictating play.

The players in the team interchange their places with relative ease, without affecting the flow of play and that has seen the likes of Coutinho, Firmino and Mane score plenty of goals and set up a few for each other. This is another reason why Daniel Sturridge is not preferred this season.
