3 Reasons Why Chelsea Is The Most Hated Club On Social Media

Mischief Makers

Chelsea players have always been the darlings of the tabloids, constantly feeding them with scandals and tales of misbehaviour. From John Terry’s illegitimate relationships to a blatant exhibition of racism by fans on a subway in Paris, Chelsea have found themselves on the wrong side of the moral debate. While such events tarnished the club’s image off the pitch, players and their antics during games had the same effect on it.

Mourinho has adopted negative managerial tactics more than once during both his spells at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea players have been known for kicking ball boys, influencing referees and play acting. Their talent assures them of silverware, but their conduct is bound to make them the most disliked champions in England.

A ruby in the dust

West London is known for its culture of ambition. The working class, who start out at the bottom and struggle to achieve, have always inhabited this part of town. The rebranded Chelsea seems to be out of place with its surroundings with its glamour and financial boost. The price of the cheapest match day ticket is £57.50, which is amongst the highest in the Premier League. The cost of watching a game at Stamford Bridge is £20 more than the average Premier League ticket price. (Prices according to the survey conducted by The Week). It rubs itself in the faces of the locals who witness players like Hazard being paid £200,000 a week.

Chelsea are located in Fulham where fans are not used to watching Russian billionaires flaunt beautiful girls while making rash footballing choices. They like a football club they can relate to, one which features home grown lads and embodies the spirit of the locals. Hence, they berate and abuse the highborn of Chelsea. Football is driven by hatred. Collective animosity gives the definition of a group of fans irrespective of the club you support. Chelsea seems to be drawing the most ire currently because there is nothing more fans hate than watching your rivals succeed.
