3 Realistic Replacements For A Must-Replace Position At Liverpool: Featuring The Stoke Super Star

Share

If there has been one consistent feature of Liverpool’s season it has been their inconsistency. Jokes aside, the goalkeeping department is one region which needs a serious upgrade with Simon Mignolet costing the side a few more points in the game against Newcastle most recently.

Mignolet’s performances haven’t been the worst in some games but he does seem to make a number of enormous mistakes which ends up affecting the result of the game. The Belgian might have a new contract with Liverpool, but that means nothing in the world of football.

One thing is a guarantee that Jurgen Klopp will be looking for new players and Mignolet should be one player who has to be replaced. We look at three players who could be the new goalkeeper at Liverpool.

Jack Butland

Stoke City might have trailed off at the end of the season, but one thing is for sure, they have one of the best goalkeepers in England currently. The 23-year-old has become Stoke’s number one despite facing a lot of competition this season from other established keepers.

It only would be natural for him to move to a bigger club and hope to be the number one. Butland is young, confident and has the ability to be one of the best in the world. Liverpool would do well if they can sign the Bristol born keeper but would Stoke be willing to sell their star? That is another question.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen

When Ter Stegen moved to Barcelona from Monchengladbach it was a bit of a surprise, simply because the Catalan club had signed Claudio Bravo, who became their number one goalkeeper in the league.

The German though has played in the Champions League and the cup competitions, but he does need more regular football if he is to get better and challenge the throne occupied by Manuel Neuer. The 23-year-old was also linked with Liverpool a few months ago and with him wanting to move away and having a German in charge of the Reds, the deal looks set to be complete as long as Liverpool match Barca’s valuation.

Loris Karius

The current Mainz number one isn’t someone who would have been on the radar for a long time but his performances for Jurgen Klopp’s former club could make him a target for many of the top sides in the world.

Karius is only 22 at the moment and linking up with Klopp could be a great option for the German. He is built to be a goalkeeper who could do well in the league but this certainly would be a risk taken by Klopp compared to the other options who have had a lot of experience playing in England or for a top team in Europe.

All in all, Mignolet’s time at the club is coming to an end and the quicker Liverpool make a decision, the better it would be for them.
