Three Players Who Could Add Real Quality To Rangers’ Squad

With a busy winter transfer programme for Rangers done and dusted to what looks like good effect, they will already be looking to the summer to see who can improve their squad further.

Whether other people in this league like it or not, the weakened Rangers of recent years and a one-team league will not last very long. It’s clear already that the Light Blues are making inroads in the Scottish Premiership and are likely to win it before long.

Even now, Rangers are 11 points behind Celtic after 26 games, having had a tumultuous season once again. Where would they be, without changing managers and players so frequently? Nobody knows! They seem to be more settled now though and that gap will not be so big next season.

Indeed, Rangers have ambitions to close it entirely and these three players would be excellent but realistic additions to the squad in order to achieve the collective goal:

Scott Arfield (Burnley)

Livingston born Arfield has stalled on signing a new deal and perhaps now wishes to play his football closer to ‘home’, making Rangers a very attractive proposition for him indeed. Assuming the Glasgow giants can afford whatever salary Arfield commands these days, he would fit into this squad no problem and would add a touch of Premier League quality to the group.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and would come for free, something surely of interest to those in charge of the funds at Ibrox.

Sammy Ameobi (Bolton Wanderers)

The winger/forward has thrived in tough circumstances at Bolton this season and he sits consistently in the top fifteen players of the English Championship. The former Newcastle man has also hit 4 goals in 19 starts for Bolton in the league, this for a side struggling badly to score goals and stay in the division.

Ameobi, although sometimes criticised, certainly did a job for Newcastle United at Premier League level and has the sort of ability which would stand him apart in Scottish football. He would make a very shrewd signing indeed.

Jason Cummings (Nottingham Forest)

The former Hibs man is currently on loan at Rangers but his permanent acquisition is a real possibility and is something which would be great for both him and the club.

He’s already hit 2 goals in 5 games for Rangers despite being mostly used from the bench and his quality in this league is obvious.
