Manchester United is one of the most successful clubs in the world, winning a bunch of titles along with their history while assembling great teams, counting with great players who brought happiness and great joy to the “Red Devils”.

However, some of the great guys that had defended their fort have come and gone over time and sometimes even great institutions like this one wind up regretting to let their stars go. Today, we’ll discuss three players that we believe should never have been sold.

  • Ruud Van Nistelrooy. This Dutch striker landed in Manchester in 2001 after three seasons of playing with PSV Eindhoven and as soon he got to Old Trafford, he started to show what he was capable of. Ruud showed himself as a lethal striker, scoring 25 goals in 32 matches and 10 goals in 14 games of Champions League in his first season as a Red Devil. while also breaking the record that was shared by Mark Stein, Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry after scoring in 8 consecutive matches in Premier League.

Manchester supporters got used to see that kind of performance from Ruud and under Sir Alex Ferguson’s command, he won 4 titles with Manchester and scored 148 goals in all the competitions until he left the team to join Real Madrid in 2007. Ruud was arguably the best Manchester United striker in last 20 years, so it’s definitely a shame that he wasn’t with the team the year they won the UEFA Champions League.

  • Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez. Formerly known as the ‘Little Pea’ amongst the Old Trafford’s spectators, the little Mexican arrived at the Old Trafford in 2010 and didn’t take long to adapt the rugged nature of the Premier League. Many were shocked by his arrival as he was a complete anonymous name, but as soon as he scored 20 goals in his debut season, he became a crowd favourite.

Hernandez, who was widely considered as a super-sub, saw his form going down as soon as Sir Alex retired. The player who scored 18 goals in 36 appearances in United’s title-winning campaign, only managed some handful of goals in the following season (2013-14). The situation got worse after the arrival of Louis van Gaal, as the Dutch completely out-favoured the Mexican. A season-long loan deal was followed with Real Madrid before his permanent transfer to the Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen was confirmed. As expected, he took the league by storm as he scored 26 goals in his debut season and right at this very moment, the 28-year-old is a regular starter for his side.

Soon after the departure of Robin van Persie, the side lacked a prolific goal-scorer and to make the situation even worse, Rooney started lacking his attacking instincts and this is when Chicharito could have been the man for United. Unluckily, the Little Pea has moved on and his prolific goal scoring abilities are surely being missed at Old Trafford.

  • Nani-

What can we say about this player? He landed in Manchester in 2007 as one of the most prominent promises in football. Well, Nani demonstrated everybody he was not only a promise, but a reality since the beginning of his journey in Manchester. The number 17 for Manchester United, Nani took his time to settle down at Old Trafford, but as soon as he was done, his game was applauded by many footballing pundits.

Surely, many would argue over his name in the list, but he was a joy to watch and could have been a great inclusion for United in the current scenario. He is obviously an upgrade over Lingard and looking at how Memphis is delivering, the now Valencia winger could have been the one for United. The Portuguese, during his time at United, was known for his long-range efforts and I still remember his goal against Chelsea that made Cech a mere spectator, and not to forget his high flying celebrations.

After a dreadful season under David Moyes, the Portuguese was sent back to his country on a season-long loan and just after his tenure ended, he was sold to the Turkish side Fenerbahce. The 29-year-old is now plying his trade with the Spanish side Valencia and so far has made five appearances with one goal to his tally.
