Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly due a 100m war chest in the summer to add some much needed depth and quality to his side, and here are three players he needs to target.
Draxler is one of the most linked names as far as Arsenal are concerned and a move for the German international looks likely. He has been in great form for Schalke in the last couple of seasons and has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in world football. He has supposedly outgrown the Schalke side and is now ready to move on to bigger things, and Arsenal seems to be the right place for him.
Arsenal’s left flank has been their Achilles heel this season, and Draxler could slot in seamlessly on the left wing for the Gunners, allowing Santi Cazorla to move to a more central role if required. Draxler is also capable as playing as a second striker, and with Wenger rumored to be considering him as the next Robin van Persie, playing him as a striker is not out of the question.
Arsenal are in desperate need of a striker due to the lack of striking options at the Emirates, with Olivier Giroud as the only decent option available to Wenger. Benzema has been linked with a move to London for quite some time now and if Real Madrid decide to splash the cash on a striker in the summer, it is highly likely that the Frenchman will leave Madrid.
Benzema is likely to be a nice fit with the flowing football that Wenger’s wards play as his ability and vision would allow him to gel in nicely with the team. Add to that the attraction of teaming up with former teammate Mesut Ozil, and Benzema might well be tempted to swap the Sapnish captal for the English one.
The main problem that Arsenal have faced this season in big games is the more dominant teams have ripped open their soft underbelly. Mikel Arteta for all his ability on the ball is very slow and hence not the best option when choosing a defensive midfielder. While Mathieu Flamini’s return has strengthen their ranks, they are in urgent requirement for a defensive midfielder in the summer.
Bayer midfielder Lars Bender is one of the best holding midfielders in the Bundesliga and hence, should be one of Arsene Wenger’s prime targets in the summer. Despite his younger twin Sven grabbing more headlines due to his performances for Borussia Dortmund, Lars has established himself as the preferred choice in the German national team setup.
Bender is capable of slotting in at right back if required and with Bacary Sagna getting on in years, the added versatility that the German would provide is likely to make him an even more attractive target. His passing is very good and hence he would slot in nicely into the Arsenal system, adding some steel and pace in the heart of midfield, something that has been missing so far this season.
