There seems to be no end to Arsenal’s list of troubles this season. Despite securing the deal for a player as lethal as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they now have some concerns to address regarding their goalkeeping options.
Petr Cech has been a rock for them in goal but he is slowing down at the of 35 and he will not be around on a long-term basis. In fact, he made quite a glaring mistake in the club’s shock defeat against Swansea City and since then, it has been reported that the Gunners’ biggest priority over the summer will be to sign a new goalkeeper.
One might think that the summer window is fairly far away but given how time is flying this year, it won’t be long before we start talking about the summer transfers and rumours.
For this season at least, Arsenal look set to finish on a strong note with the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang in the mix but not having a reliable goalkeeper can cost them dearly next season.
Hence, to that end, they will need somebody who can hold up the fort at the back and with that in mind, here are three options for them to consider.
There are some reports suggesting that Arsenal already have him on their target list and why not? He is one of the most promising goalkeeping prospects across Europe at present and signing him would definitely be a coup.
With Sven Mislintat pulling the strings in the background, the Gunners did some good business in January and there is no reason why they cannot replicate that in the summer and snap up a deal for Oblak. It is definitely an ambitious move but given Oblak’s lightning-fast reflexes and maturity, the Gunners must try.
Butland is one of the most exciting young prospects closer to home and he has been likened to seek a summer move out of Stoke after putting in some truly brilliant performances.
Despite the Potters’ many struggles this season, Butland has been a beacon of light for them and signing him can massively improve Arsenal’s overall defensive solidity.
He boasts of immense potential and there is no doubt that a move to join the North London side will come as a major boost for the goalkeeper’s career.
Leno has been a force to be reckoned with across Germany and he is the one earmarked to take over Manuel Neuer’s position in the future.
He is young, talented and extremely reliable in front of the net. The chance to move to Arsenal will definitely seem like an enticing prospect but it is generally tough to lure young German players out of the Bundesliga so we will have to wait and see if Arsenal can succeed in doing that.
