Why Bournemouth should hand Ryan Fraser a new contract

According to the Sun, Bournemouth are ready to begin talks over a new contract for Scottish winger Ryan Fraser. The 24-year-old has just 18 months left on his current deal and the Cherries are keen to tie him down for the foreseeable future.

After making a slow start to life at the club, Fraser has now emerged as one of the top performers under Eddie Howe this season. He was mostly used as a substitute during his initial years and was also shipped out on loan to Ipswich Town but the Scotland international has remained patient and has steadily worked his way up the ladder.

Bournemouth should definitely hand the winger a new deal, considering the pivotal role he’s played for Eddie Howe’s side so far. The 24-year-old has picked up 3 goals and 3 assists in 9 Premier League appearances this season. His pace and directness on the ball have made it very hard for the defenders to get him off possession. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Ryan Fraser

Fraser has played in a number of positions for the Cherries during his time at the club. But the winger has flourished playing on the left-hand side of a 4-4-2 formation under Eddie Howe. Fraser provides width and energy down the flanks.

He is also excellent at dragging defenders and holding midfielders out of their position, giving the likes of Callum Wilson and Josh King a lot of room to make their runs. Fraser has been a good source of supply going forward. He has supplied a total of 45 crosses into the box this season, creating 8 big chances. (Stats courtesy – Premier League)

The little Scot’s meteoric rise to prominence has played a crucial role in Bournemouth’s superb form this season. The Cherries are currently flying high at 6th place, having scored a whopping 16 goals so far. Fraser has been an absolutely vital cog in their game.

Eddie Howe

He is well determined and motivated to take new strides this season. The 24-year-old has also contributed very well to the team’s defensive play. He is always willing to track back and has shown excellent work rate, surging up and down the field.

There’s no doubt that Bournemouth should hand him a new contract. At the rate Fraser is going right now, there’s a good chance he’ll play a crucial role for them in the long run.

Eddie Howe has done an excellent job by bringing Fraser up in the right way and the club must now repay the manager’s faith by tying the Scot down to a new deal.
