Liverpool have been linked with a number of players this season and one rumour which has gone on for a number of months is that of Piotr Zielinski. The 21-year-old Polish player has been a star at Empoli and the youngster even spoke about the interest that Liverpool have shown in him.
“There is a lot of truth in [talk of] the interest of [Liverpool manager] Jurgen Klopp in me. There was contact, I do not deny that.”
Zielinski has 13 international appearances for the Polish team and he should be travelling to the Euros with the side but who is this player and what can we expect from him if he does sign for Liverpool?
Klopp did have a great time with another Polish star in Kuba during his initial years at Dortmund and it seems the German has set his eyes on another rising star from the European country as he looks to rebuild his Liverpool team.
The Polish player had joined Udinese in 2012 but has been on loan at Empoli from 2014 and his new side finished ahead of Udinese, his parent club thanks to the Polish player’s performances on the pitch.
He plays mostly as a central midfielder and is accustomed to starting attacks thanks to his incredible range of passing. Zielinski is also known for his ability to run from one end of the pitch to another and can be seen as the attacking box to box midfielder that Liverpool need.
Piotr also has made 30 appearances for Empoli this season and has four goals and four assists to his name this season, not bad for a midfielder, especially one who is getting better as each game passes by.
Zielinski would be a great addition for any side and he is someone who loves to unlock defences with his passing and his running would be perfect for Liverpool as they employ a pressing style of football. The Empoli man also has the ability to pull off some great flicks to play others into open spaces.
There are a few issues with his game and that is related to his aerial ability and even his finishing which aren’t the greatest in the world. The latter can be fixed with training but without him being a great header of the ball, it might be hard for him to do well in the robust nature of the Premier League.
Zielinski though is young and can get better with time. We have seen how Emre Can and even Joe Allen have grown under Jurgen Klopp and well the Polish star could be the next player to get a dose of the German as he looks to take Liverpool to the top next season.
Piotr is contracted with Empoli till this season and then he would be going back to Udinese, this could be a tough situation for both the player and the team as they have invested a lot of time on him but he could well be moving to Liverpool since there is strong interest from the manager and who would not want to play under Jurgen Klopp? We all would if we had the chance and maybe Zielinski is thinking the same thing as well.
