Leicester City Opinion – Two central midfielders Rodgers can target in the summer

According to a report in BBC, Brendan Rodgers has been appointed as the manager Leicester City after he left his job at Celtic. The Northern Irishman has signed a deal until 2022, succeeding Claude Puel at the club, who was sacked on Sunday after the Foxes’ 4-1 home defeat against Crystal Palace.

This move marks a Premier League return for Rodgers, who has previously managed Swansea City and Liverpool in this division. He almost won the league at Anfield during the 2013/14 season but things didn’t unravel in the way he would have wanted.

Talking about the Leicester team, they have so many good players who are young and have loads of potential to become world-beaters in due course of time. But it seems like they are a bit short when it comes to the central/defensive midfield department.

Wilfried Ndidi and Nampalys Mendy play in a midfield pivot and Youri Tielemans is also there but he is a loan signing from AS Monaco. Hence, Rodgers must look at signing central midfielders in the summer.

Here are the two options he can look at:

Morgan Schneiderlin (from Everton)

Safe to say, Morgan Schneiderlin hasn’t really starred for Everton ever since joining them from Manchester United in the January window of 2017. The Frenchman started the game against Cardiff City on Tuesday but that was only his eighth appearance in the league this season.

Hence, Leicester can test the Toffees’ resolve in the summer by making a bid for the midfielder. He is a quality player who can operate as one of the deeper-lying central midfielders. Rodgers can bring the best out of the 29-year-old.

James Milner (from Liverpool)

When he was at Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers signed Milner from Manchester City on a free transfer in 2015. The 33-year-old’s contract will expire in the summer and he will be a free agent in the summer.

Hence, the new Leicester manager can do the same business and bring the experienced midfielder to the King Power stadium. The Englishman’s quality and versatility would be a great addition to the Foxes team.
