Two Signings That Can Save Stoke City’s Season

Stoke City have suffered a horrifying season so far and are hovering just above the relegation zone, not the place where they are used to for the talent they possess. There have been just a handful of things or moments to cheer about this term, which is a bit of a letdown to be honest.

The Potters parted ways with their long serving boss Mark Hughes due to a string of poor results, an exit from the League Cup and looking set to fight for survival the entire season. In the FA Cup too, they were on the losing side, which mostly decided Mark Hughes’ sacking.

Paul Lambert took charge two weeks back and has steadied the ship with one victory which featured a resolute display. The management had earlier decided that they would not let go of any of their players due to their crucial battle down in the Premier League. To highlight how poor the side has been, Stoke City are the first and only team to have conceded 50 goals in the Premier League and are the worst defence.

Danny Ings

This is one name that has been buzzing around since the summer transfer window. After being halted by injuries, Ings has fallen down the pecking order and is behind the likes of Roberto Firmino, despite having made a few substitute appearances occasionally.

The talented forward is currently being chased by other clubs including West Ham, Crystal Palace and Southampton. The Englishman has a poacher’s instinct and puts away half chances and headers with ease. He was outstanding for the Clarets in the second division and when they got promoted to the PL and could surely help Stoke City with their problems in front of goal as they have only managed to score 25 goals in 24 matches this season.

Ings could bring in the other forwards into play, buy time for them and bring some freshness into the out of sorts attack. This would reduce the burden on midfielders to score goals and their dependency on long rangers and magical moments.

Papa Alioune Ndiaye

Another area where Stoke desperately need to strengthen their ranks, the midfield. No one really apart from Joe Allen has made major contributions on a consistent basis and the Potters need another reliable, more attack-minded man in the middle.

Ndiaye boasts a high tackle success rate, adds a lot of energy to whichever position he occupies and doesn’t allow any space and time for the opponents. The Senegalese 27-year-old can dribble far better than the other central midfielders in the Stoke side and possesses a fine passing range something that Lambert’s side will need if they really want to avoid the drop.
