2 missed summer transfers that could come back to haunt Liverpool including £90m star

Two summer transfer targets Liverpool will regret missing out on

Liverpool were prudent in the transfer market, getting their business done early on in order to allow the new players to gel in before the start of the new season.

There was one area where the Reds were probably desperate – the goalkeeping department. They eventually went big and got Alisson Becker from AS Roma to strengthen a dodgy position. However, despite those done deals, there are some missed transfer targets who Liverpool might regret missing out on:

Jan Oblak

According to the Express, Liverpool wanted Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid as their number one goalkeeper this summer. However, Klopp wasn’t ready to pay over the odds for the Slovenian goalkeeper who has been fantastic for Atletico over a period of two to three years now.

Jan Oblak

The shot-stopper had a release clause of £90m for Oblak, hence, for any club to buy him, they really had to pay over the bar. With Liverpool desperate at the time because of the Loris Karius situation, getting Oblak at any price would have sufficed.

However, the Reds did very well to swiftly get the Alisson deal done, despite missing out on their top transfer target. In the Brazilian, they have a got a very fine goalkeeper, so this miss on Oblak might not be rued at Anfield. Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see how this turns out in the end.

Nabil Fekir

It was clear that Liverpool required a creative attacking midfielder in their line-up after the departure of Phillipe Coutinho. They targeted Nabil Fekir of Lyon and agreed to terms too, until medical issues stopped the transfer from happening.

Nabil Fekir

The Frenchman has had issues with his knee in the past, so Liverpool weren’t willing to take that risk knowing that Klopp’s playing style requires super-fit players who can play a certain intensity of football on a consistent basis.

Hence, not getting this deal over the line would have disappointed the Reds, as Fekir is a quality player. To add to that, his addition might have really rounded the Liverpool squad to challenge on all fronts possible.
