Yet another disastrous performance from Liverpool as they now have lost to Newcastle. The supporters have started to think that this is as low as they can get and now almost every section of fans are trembling with fear as the Merseyside club gears up to face the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea in the next few matches.
There is a consensus among the fans that Liverpool have not used their transfer budget judiciously this summer and as a result of that the club is now suffering in front of the bigger teams. It is true that Luis Suarez can never be replaced, but an attempt should have been made to bring some world class players to Anfield to cope up with his departure. That has not been done and the players that Liverpool have brought have all been way too mediocre. Then there are players like Dejan Lovren who did an wonderful job for Southampton last season, but has mainly been a failure for the Kops till now.
The dejected supporters have dug deep enough to show that out of the 200 million that Liverpool have spent since Brendan Rodgers’ appointment, almost all of the money, barring Sturridge and Coutinho have been wasted. This has brought to the downfall of Liverpool from being the most exciting Premier League side on the attack last season to cutting a sorry state in front of the goal this term. While many blame Rodgers and Ayre for this, a few still believe that the situation can be controlled by bringing in the right kind of reinforcements in the winter and Liverpool can still challenge for the top four position this season. We take a look at two such players who could turn it around for Liverpool if they arrive in January.
Marco Reus
The Borussia Dortmund star is supposedly not willing to sign a new contract with the German club after he has been disillusioned with his present team. While most of his teammates have left Borussia for Bayern, he has stood by his team through thick and thin, but now Reus thinks is the right time to seek a career move. Liverpool could be immensely helped with a player like Reus in the midfield as he will be able to bring in the creativity that is lack at the moment. Reus has already been linked to Liverpool and the management should act fast to materialise the deal.
Gonzalo Higuain
The Napoli star has also been linked to Liverpool over the past couple of seasons and it is high time they make a move for the clinical finisher. What Mario Balotelli has failed to do, Higuain would be able to do with ease. He is also not happy with his current club and their lack of transfer budget and this move would be ideal for him. Higuain is a proven finisher of the ball and his goals have saved the day for Napoli more than once. Time Liverpool make an effort to sign him.
