Why Brighton should complete the Percy Tau and Jack O’Connell deals before pre-season

Chris Hughton will be keen to improve next season after Brighton and Hove Albion beat the drop and finished 15th in the Premier League.

The Seagulls have departed for a pre-season training camp on 8th July and will be playing Swiss Super League side FC St Gallen on 14th July as a part of their pre-season tour.

Hughton’s men will next face League One side AFC Wimbledon on 21st July before playing Charlton Athletic at the Valley three days later. Albion’s final game will see them clash against Championship side Birmingham City on Saturday, 28th July.

Brighton have been busy in the summer transfer market, bolstering their squad with the likes of Bernardo, Florian Andone, Leon Balogun and Jason Steele coming in. But Hughton will need a couple of fresh faces more in his squad to sustain in the Premier League for the second successive year running.

That being said, here are two deals Hughton must complete before the pre-season.

Percy Tau (Mamelodi Sundowns)

According to reports, Brighton are interested in South African star Percy Tau. The Seagulls have tabled a final offer for Mamelodi Sundowns’ Tau that is believed to be in the region of £2.8million.

Tau, 24, was the Premier Soccer League’s Player of the Season in the 2017/18 campaign. The nippy attacker has already boycotted Sundowns’ pre-season training as he is desperate to try his luck in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old would be a significant buy for the Seagulls as Tau would offer Howe’s side a different dimension in the attack. A quick and agile forward, the South African has the attributes to take the Premier League by storm.

Jack O’Connell (Sheffield United)

As per reports, Brighton have launched a £6million bid for Sheffield United defender Jack O’Connell. Hughton is seeking competition in central defence despite the addition of Nigerian star Leon Balogun.

O’Connell, 24, was an important figure for the Blades last season, after assisting 4 goals and appearing in all 46 of his side’s Championship outings. The Sheffield United man is predominantly a centre-back but can also fill in at left-back if required.

Due to his versatility, O’Connell could be a really good acquisition for Brighton ahead of their second campaign in the Premier League.
