Two Deadline Day Deals That Huddersfield Should Look To Complete

Huddersfield, like 10 or 11 others in this very tight league, are still in danger of relegation and in fact their goal difference does not inspire confidence at all.

David Wagner has done a tremendous job in Yorkshire and will, of course, remain at the helm, but let’s make no bones about the fact that the Terriers are in as much trouble as anyone else in the bottom half of this division and need reinforcements before Wednesday night to give themselves some sort of chance of survival.

Midfield and attacking players are the order of the day given that they will always concede at this level but need to have a more significant threat going forward.

Here are two players they may yet look to bring in before the window slams shut:

Rolando Aarons (Newcastle United)

The Jamaican-born forward would be a good fit here given that the Terriers have just lost the services of Kasey Palmer in their squad and may be short of numbers in attacking areas.

Ordinarily, I would say that there’s no way Rafa Benitez would allow a first-team player to leave in the current circumstance and certainly not to a rival, however, the signing of Kenedy from Chelsea probably just about puts paid to Aarons’ chance of significant pitch time this season now and it would appear that his time on Tyneside is up in the long run.

Aarons wouldn’t cost too much at all to bring in and could potentially be tempted by a loan with an option to buy, something which means both the player and the respective clubs can re-evaluate the situation in the summer.

Scott Arfield (Burnley)

Arfield is out of contract at the end of this season and doesn’t seem keen to sign a new deal at Turf Moor which has led to rumours that he is seeking a transfer this week.

Arfield has been a target for Rangers among others and it’s unclear at this stage whether he does fancy a return to Scotland or wants to prove that he is still very much a Premier League player, something he could do with Huddersfield at least in the short-term.

If the latter is true, I would thoroughly encourage the Terriers to throw in a bid over the next day or so and tempt him across to Yorkshire, a move that would enable him to keep his current property, as the two stadiums are only 25 miles apart.
