After a frustrating game against West Ham at the weekend, Manchester United will now turn their attention to the first chance of silverware this season as they take on the same opponent for a crunch game in the league cup. Bilic’s side put in a decent performance at Old Trafford at the weekend but they will have to come up with a better performance to knock the Red Devils out of the competition. It is a knockout fixture and can go all the way to penalties if it ends in a deadlock like in the league. Mourinho has enough interest in the League Cup to field a strong side and here is the predicted lineup that he might play for this game against the Hammers:

Team News:

Mourinho will be without the services of Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling who are injured and Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini both of whom are suspended. Bastian Schweinsteiger might be back in action as the manager will look to give his star players some rest this week.

Formation: 4-3-2-1

Sergio Romero:

The second-choice shot-stopper for Mourinho, Romero will get his chance to impress in this League Cup encounter over the Hammers.

Ashley Young:

With first team players needing some rest, Young should replace Antonio Valencia in the starting lineup for this League Cup game.

Daley Blind:

The Dutch international has been impressive as a centre-back this season for United and he should start in that position on Wednesday.

Marcos Rojo:

The Argentine has also put in some decent performance at the heart of the defense and should keep his place in the side for this game against West Ham.

Matteo Darmian:

The Italian was used as a left-back to good effect recently and he should start this game for Manchester United against West Ham.

Michael Carrick:

With two of the midfielders in the squad suspended for this fixture, veteran midfielder Carrick should be back in action for this crunch tie.

Ander Herrera:

The Spaniard has been the most impressive midfielder for Manchester United this season and he should keep his place in the squad for this game at the Old Trafford.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan:

The Armenian has not been able to put in strong performances recently but he should get a chance to impress against the Hammers this weekend.

Juan Mata:

The Spaniard has been the best player for United in the final third this season and he should start the game in a number 10 role for United against West Ham.

Anthony Martial:

The French youngster has not been able to get into the first team under Mourinho but he will get his chance this week against the Hammers.

Wayne Rooney:

The skipper of the side has been in and out of the starting XI but he should lead the attack for the side in the game.
