Real Madrid are looking to activate Uruguayan defender Jose Gimenez’s release clause of £51.3m to gain an advantage in signing the player.
According to Real’s current manager Zinedine Zidane, Gimenez is an alternative against Paris Saint Germain’s Marquinhos and further identifies him as his prime target. Zidane may have only this summer to make changes to his squad due to the transfer embargo by FIFA, although suspended currently.
The 21-year-old has made 58 appearances for Athletico Madrid so far since arriving from Uruguayan club Danubio F.C. in 2013.
The Defender has also been linked with Chelsea as being in the Blues incoming boss Antonio Conte’s list of potential transfer targets. This may be put Chelsea on high alert with regards to the player.
While Real Madrid are looking to activate the player’s release clause, Chelsea may need to wake up from their nap if they still want to sign the player.
